One of many naval banners hanging throughout the office, “Damn the Torpedoes” is a quote widely attributed to Tennessee-born Union Rear Admiral David G. Farragut during the Civil War’s Battle of Mobile Bay. The battle’s renown is due to Farragut’s dash through a Confederate minefield, before which he yelled “Damn the Torpedoes! Go ahead!” The successful run led to eventual victory for the Union navy.
