“This is the number one plane. The number two, three, four, and five never look forward. They fly the entire time and they’re next to this plane and only looking at one spot, so that their wingtip is next to another plane’s wingtip. Number one only looks forward, and the rest are all looking in different directions. Number two and number three don’t have to like each other, that’s immaterial, but they do have to trust each other; that’s critical. They need to know the precise timing of when to turn and to shift or they’ll most likely collide in formation. For me, a core value that I live by, is trust. I talk about it to my employees every single day.”
